PA Real ID Requirements

Beginning October 1, 2020, all residents of Pennsylvania will need a REAL-ID Compliant driver’s license, photo ID card, or another form of federally-acceptable identification to board a domestic commercial flight or enter a federal building or military installation that requires ID.

You WILL NOT need a REAL ID to:

Drive
Vote
Access Hospitals
Visit the Post Office
Access Federal Courts
Apply for Benefits

If you have a need to obtain a REAL ID, please follow the following steps:

Step 1: Gather the necessary documents

Residents must present original or certified copies of the following documents to PennDOT:

1. Proof of identity (Birth Certificate or Passport)
2. Proof of social security number
3. Two proofs of current PA residence
4. Proof of any and all legal name changes

Step 2: Apply for Pre-Verification

Drivers who received their first license, learner’s permit or photo ID card AFTER September 1, 2003 may find out if their documents are on file by visiting REAL ID Pre-Verification and order your REAL ID online.

Drivers who received their first license, learner’s permit or photo ID BEFORE September 1, 2003 must vist one of the following:

Any PennDOT REAL ID center

Any PennDOT Driver License Center
